How Much is Bet on the Kentucky Derby

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Horse racing

The Kentucky Derby is the biggest horse race in the world every year. That’s why it’s no surprise that the manage to the Kentucky Derby is also the highest of any race. Countless people from all over the world bet at live tracks and sportsbooks that are online.
While it is not known how much is bet everywhere, I have pulled up some numbers from Churchill Downs and North American Racetracks in recent years. Let’s take a look at these totals, in addition to the presence numbers.
North American Racetracks: Money Bet on the Derby (Simulcast)
Betting on the Kentucky Derby at 2019 set records across the board. These wagers totaled $165.5 million last year, up 10% from $149.9 million in 2018. There is nothing like it in the world of horse racing.
We have included wagering levels for the whole day of racing (program), as well as the principal event (race). On-track numbers show the Sum of Money wagered at Churchill downs on the day of this race, although the figures from all source signify money coming in from All Around the Nation in casinos/racetracks Offering simulcast betting on the Derby.Attendance in Churchill Downs & Total On-Track Wagers
Attendance at the course came in at 2019, the fourth year. More and more as ticket prices continue to grow, people are choosing to see the race at home or in the a local casino. It’s still an experience that any fan should try at least once, but the quality of coverage on the race has gotten so great that it’s not as big of a draw as it had been previously.
The record for attendance was put back with 170,513 fans but it has seen a decline from that summit since. Until there’s a large name running like Bob Baffert’s American Pharaoh at 2015, these amounts will probably remain near the average for the past 10-15 decades.

There are just two ways chances — or prices — are exhibited at racecourses in Britain: the traditional fractional system or the more recently introduced Publish system.
Fractional odds:
These are usually displayed in this format: 4/1.
In spoken form that is”Four-to-one” and occasionally this may be written as: 4-1.
Odds are just maths. To illustrate some examples, let us call every number a device. So:
4/1: For every 1 unit you bet, you will receive 4 units should you win (plus your stake).
7/2: For every 2 units you stake, you will receive 7 components should you win (plus your stake).
9/4: For each four units you stake, you will receive 9 units should you win (plus your bet ).
Should you see fractional odds the other way round — like 1/4 — this is known as odds-on and that means the horse in question is a hot favourite to win the race.
In spoken form that is”Four-to-one on”.
1/4: For every 4 units you bet, you will receive 1 unit if you win (plus your bet ).
1/2: For every 2 units you bet, you’ll receive 1 unit in case you win (plus your stake).
You will see Evens or EVS exhibited. This is the equal of a 1/1 fraction. Again it means that the horse in question is predicted to win the race.
EVS: For every 1 unit you bet, you’ll receive 1 unit if you win (plus your stake).
Decimal odds:
These are generally displayed in this format: 5.00.
5.00: Just multiply this number by your stake to calculate your complete prospective returns if you are putting a win wager. Unlike fractional odds, your bet has factored into this price i.e. this is the equivalent of 4/1 and also the 1 device you bet.
Favourites:
Every race has a favorite. This is the horse most likely to win, which is reflected in getting the shortest cost displayed with betting operators.
You will observe an F alongside the horse’s chances when they are the favourite. If more than one horse has the very same chances of winning in accordance with the gambling market, this will probably be displayed as JF, meaning joint-favourite.
What about odds when gambling each-way?
Racecourse bookmakers working at Jockey Club Racecourses should meet (or exceed in the client’s favour) a standard set of terms in the event you choose to put an each-way bet.
You may appreciate it isn’t affordable for bookmakers to pay out on all four places in a four runner race (!) These agreed terms regarding place part of your each-way wager have to vary dependent on the amount of runners and type of race. These are:
??? Races with runners or 3: win bets just, unless the bookmaker chooses to offer 1/5 (one fifth) of the stated odds for finishing 1st or 2nd
??? Races with Three or Four Trainers: 1/5 (one fifth) of the stated odds for finishing 1st or 2nd
??? Races with 5 to 7 runners (inclusive): 1/4 (1 quarter) odds for finishing 1st or 2nd
??? Races with 8 or more runners: 1/5 odds for finishing 1st, 2nd or 3rd
??? Handicap races with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive): 1/4 odds for finishing 1st, 2nd or even 3rd
??? Handicap races with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive): 1/5 odds for finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th
??? Handicap races with 22 or more runners: 1/4 odds for finishing 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th

The 144th functioning of the Preakness Stakes begins at 6:48 p.m. ET on NBC.
Improbable is the betting favorite to win the racebut anticipate a few longshots to strike the board at Pimlico.
The 145th Kentucky Derby lived up to its billing for a race which any horse can win. The exact same can be said of the 2019 Preakness Stakes (6:48 p.m. ET, NBC) because there is no truly dominant horse at a wide-open area.
With just four horses making the trip out of Churchill Downs into Pimlico, we really have no idea what to expect in the next jewel of the Triple Crown.
Bob Baffert’s Improbable (5-2) is nearly certain to go off as the favorite, but supporting him are a group of seven or six horses with very little between these. Coming off a shocking win with a 65-1 longshot at the Derby, what sort of betting chaos will we see at the 2019 Preakness Stakes?

The odds listed in the race program are the”morning line” chances. These are the odds placed on the horses by the track’s handicapper once the race program is printed, until the wagering begins. In the monitor, the odds will be published on the tote board before the race; they change up until post time, depending on how customers are betting on each horse in the race.
The horse that clients have wager the most money on is called the”favourite”. This horse is going to have the smallest odds.
The”longshots” have the least amount of money wagered on them and therefore have the highest odds. The racetrack handles the money, keeps a percentage (known as a”take-out”) and calculates the horses’ odds dependent on the quantity of money wagered on each horse. The remaining money is then paid back to the gamers who have winning tickets.
Win odds on the tote board have been displayed based on $1.00 unless otherwise noticed. A”3″ displayed alongside a horse’s number indicates that the horse is 3-1. A good instance of an exception to this general rule is when”5/2″ has been revealed. The tote board does not reveal decimals, so, 5/2 chances means the odds on a horse are divided by 2, or 2.5-1. Win payoffs are calculated based on a $2.00 wager because at most tracks this is the minimum bet. Example #1: A horse which wins 5-1 will return $5.00 for every $1.00 wagered. If you had placed the minimum bet of $2 on this horse to win, your payoff will be: $10 (5 x 1 x $2) + your initial wager of $2 — for a total of $12.
Hint #2: A horse which wins 9-2 will return $4.50 for every $1.00 wagered. If you had placed the minimum wager of $2 on this horse to win, your payoff will be$9.00 (4.50 x 1 x $2) + your initial bet of $2 — for a total of $11.
Normally, payoffs are as follows, based on a $2 wager:

Betting does not have to be rocket science. Keep it simple by deciding on a horse with a trendy title. Or one that’s wearing your favourite colour. But if you are the analytic type who wants to consider a horse’s racing background, learn how to read a Racing Form and try your hand in handicapping.
Placing Your Bet
The easiest way to put your bet or wager is in the counter. Let the teller understand the following information:
The racetrack (remember, you can bet on races at other tracks)
The race number
The dollar amount you want to bet The type of bet The amount of your horse Ex. “In Santa Anita, third race, five dollars to win on number two.”
Kinds of Bets
There are several sorts of bets. But let’s start with the fundamental ones:
Win, Place and Show.
Win — If your horse finishes 1st, you win $$.
Place — If your horse finishes 1st or even 2nd, you win $$.
Prove — If your horse finishes 1st, 2nd or 3rd, you win .
Bets or Blend Wagers
Across the board — Three equivalent Win, Place and Show bets.
If your horse finishes 1st, you win all three stakes.
If your horse finishes 2nd, you win the area and Show bets.
If your horse finishes 3rd, you win on the Show wager.
Exacta — Pick two horses in 1 race. Should they finish 1st and 2nd, in exact order, you win.

Pick 3 — Similar to the Daily Double, but for three successive races.
Pick 4 — Similar to the Daily Double, however for four successive races.
Pick 6 — The biggest bet you can make. Decide on the horse in six races. If you win, you win big.
If no one picks all six winners, these choosing 5 from 6 will divide 30 percent of the Pick Six pool. The remaining 70 percent”takes over” to the next racing day, and will continue to do so daily until someone correctly selects 6 winners out of 6 races.
Watch and Win
After placing your bet, watch your horse run. If your horse comes in the cash, sweet! But don’t plan on purchasing a private jet only yet. Wait until the race was declared”official”. Collect your winnings in any window.
Automated Betting Machines
Once you’re familiar with placing bets, you can try using one of those self-service, automated machines. These easy-to-use machines are available at every track and supply simple directions about how best to wager or collect money out of a winning ticket. Easy peasy.

Live Derby Odds: Betting Favorites, Contenders & Rest of the Field

The 145th running of the Kentucky Derby is scheduled for Saturday, May 4 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.

We are only a little over a week away from the major race.
For all that you need to know about betting this race, check out my Kentucky Derby Betting Guide. I will also have my win/place/show picks posted shortly in my Kentucky Derby Predictions article.Ever wonder just how much money is bet on the Derby? You might be surprised by how much action this occasion brings in. Discover how much cash is wagered in my year-by-year gambling stinks article.
Take a look at the Vegas Odds to Win the 2019 Kentucky Derby
Before we enter the odds, I want take a second to simply speak about the way this race was trending. For the longest time there was a huge amount of unpredictability in this race.
The gambling favorite has won 18 of their last 52, and it will be a win rate of 34.6%. But, prior to 2013 the triumph rate was sitting at 26.1%. Going to the 2019 race, the betting favorite has won each of their previous six Kentucky Derby’s.
Has the most well-known horse racing event of the year missing its unpredictability? Maybe. The conduct of favorites dominating this race coincided with the shift in how the field was determined.
Previously the 20 spots moved into the horses that had the maximum winnings in graded stakes races. Starting in 2013, the field had been based on a new points system, where points were awarded according to a horses operation in select races.
The concept is that the new points system does a far better job of obtaining the best horses in the field for the 1??1/4 mile trail. Prior to the points system, horses who snore in sprints (races less than one mile) were qualifying for the Derby.
These horses, that had zero chance of winning a race of this length, would head out and set ridiculous paces. Your best horses (betting favorites) would end up attempting to maintain those sprinters and could run out of gas, which allowed some of your long shots .
2019 Best ContendersWhen we first looked at the odds for its 2019 Kentucky Derby (a little over a week ago), Game Winner and Roadster were tied for the best odds at 5/1. While both of those are still considered to be top contenders, they’re no longer the horse(s) to beat.
The sharps have made Omaha Beach the odds on favorite in 3/1, which is right around the same odds as last year’s Derby winner Justify. For those wondering, Omaha Beach was recorded with the 3rd greatest odds when we last checked at 6/1.
Getting back to the chances as of right now, Roadster gets the second best chances at 9/2 (+450), only slightly before Game Winner at 5/1, Improbable in 6/1, Tacitus in 8/1 and Maximum Security in 10/1.
Then you have just a small bit of a difference until we reach are group of contenders. Beginning with Code of Honor at 14/1, followed of Will at 16/1, By My Standards at 18/1 and Vekoma in 18/1.

2019 Preakness Stakes Betting Odds, Analysis: Power Ranking the Contenders and Live Longshots

Together with the first four horses to cross the finish line in the 2019 Kentucky Derby bypassing the 144th Preakness Stakes, the second leg of the Triple Crown is shaping up for a great betting race.
You will find nine new shooters in the field, and four Kentucky Derby returnees (Improbable, War of Will, Win Win Win, and Bodexpress). New shooters have just won the Preakness Stakes four occasions since the turn of the century, but one has completed in the trifecta at the same rate over precisely the exact same period.
You have to focus on the brand new shooters if you are playing race exotics. But this can be a year where one of them has a legitimate shot at winning. If that occurred, it would be the next episode in the past 3 years following Chad Brown’s Cloud Computing won the 2017 Preakness.2019 Preakness Stakes Odds

No. 2: Bourbon War (12-1)

It also wouldn’t be that surprising, given the unflattering results to date of this present crop of three-year-old horses.
Opportunities shift radically from their morning line worth. So that horses will provide the most gambling value on Saturday?
My rankings are below:

Current Vegas Odds for Horses in the Field for 2019 Preakness Stakes

Posted Leave a commentPosted in Horse racing

We are a few days away in the 2019 Preakness Stakes. For all those who don’t know, it’s held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The actual race is program for 6:18 EST on Saturday, May 18.
While the Kentucky Derby is capped at 20 horses, just 14 places are made accessible for the Preakness. We are not going to reach the limit this year. As of today there are just 12 horses which currently have gambling lines to win the race. There will be no attempt at a Triple Crown this year. Kentucky Derby winner, Country House, has withdrew from the race. In reality, only 4 of those 12 horses that currently have chances ran at Churchill Downs.
Improbable is the best of those four horses, as he came in 4th at the Derby and is currently listed as the odds on favorite at 2 to 1.
Just 4 occasions since 1983 has a horse won the Preakness after bypassing the first leg of the Triple Crown. The most recent being in 2017 with Cloud Computing.
If you’re looking for some expert guidance, be sure to check out my Preakness Stakes predictions. I will be publishing my win/place/show selections shortly.
At the mean time, check out my fast breakdown of the top contenders. I have also put together a gambling guide and will be upgrading our Preakness payouts page in the finish of the race.
Vegas Odds on Favorites to Win the 2019 Preakness Stakes
Improbable (2/1)
When you factor that the lack of success that horses have had who race at Pimlico after not making the area at the Kentucky Derby, then it’s easy to see why Improbable is your preferred. He had the best finish of the four horses in the area at the Preakness who ran at Churchill Downs.
Improbable arrived in 4th after closing as the favorite to win the Derby at 4 to 1. Trainer, Bob Baffert, has spoken very highly of his horse moving into Saturday’s race.
War of Will (3/1)
If you do not believe the books are favoring the odds to the horses that ran well at the Derby, all you need to do is look at War of Will. He has the second best odds in the field at 3 to 1 and that’s following a 7th place finish in the first leg of the Triple Crown.
Interesting to not that War Will performed exactly as anticipated, as he closed using the 7th best odds to win the race in 16.7 to 1.
Alwaysmining (7/1)
Following is a glance at one of the top”new” contenders in the area. That would be Maryland’s own Alwaysmining. Win or lose, many feel like this horse will play a key part in the way things unfold on Saturday. Alwaysmining likes to set the pace also has the speed to get it done. Keep in mind this is the shortest of the 3 legs at the Triple Crown, so it’s not from the question he can go wire to wire.
Alwaysmining won’t lack any assurance. He has won all the last 6 races he has started.
Bourbon War (7/1)
Bourbon War is right there alongside Alwaysmining in terms of chances to win. Both discuss the next greatest odds in the area at 1. Bourbon War was on the bubble to making the area in the Kentucky Derby, therefore he must be one of the better horses who did not run at Churchill Downs.

2019 Kentucky Derby Sets All-Time Handle Records; $4.1 Million Wagered In Japan

Derby fans weathered a continuous late-afternoon rain as Country House captured the 145th Kentucky Derby Presented by Woodford Reserve over a sloppy track. Wagering out of all-sources was the on both the Kentucky Derby Day program and on the Kentucky Derby race.
Wagering out of all-sources on the Kentucky Derby Day program totaled $250.9 million, an 11% growth over the 2018 total and past record of $225.7 million.
